Vanessa Curry
SASS was formed in October of 2004 by Vanessa Curry, as a creative way to find and make friends in a new city. The group is located in Charlotte and was started for the purpose of building friendships, professional networking and to provide a support system for women of color.
“When I first relocated to Charlotte, I didn’t know anyone outside the people I worked with. Every weekend, I would travel back to Atlanta where I was more familiar. Then I realized that I could enjoy Charlotte more if I made it my new comfort zone”.
“I wanted to interact with other positive women who had personal and professional goals, so that we could interact and learn from each other while building new friendships.”
“It was then that I began brainstorming the concept for SASS, and within only a few months we held our first meeting.”
Although our organization started with a group of "single" women - today, some SASS members are wives and mothers. Our lives continue to evolve, but our hearts and mission remain the same.
A little about me – professionally:
I am originally from Oklahoma where I attended high school and college.
I hold degrees in both Marketing and Advertising, and I have over 14 years experience in consumer packaged goods, with a specialty in Marketing, Product Development, Brand Management and Sourcing.
In addition to my current professional job role, I have a couple of small business interests that keep me busy and challenged.
A little about me – personally:
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, sister, and friends - as well as working on improvements – to myself, my home, my yard. I also like to travel and explore new places. Since 2007, I have become actively involved in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in honor of my mother. This is a cause that I am committed to for life - and will do all I can to help in the fight, education, awareness and prevention of breast cancer. And...being a lover of consumer products, I love to shop!
I live a charmed life and feel blessed in so many ways. I want to live a life with no regrets – and be a woman that my Mom would have been proud of.
